In the ever-evolving landscape of modern finance, digital banking applications have become the cornerstone of customer interactions with financial institutions. As technology advances and customer expectations evolve, the need to reimagine and redesign these apps becomes crucial. This case study is a Credit Union banking app redesign with the goal of enhanced user experience and application of the brand expression.

Objective: Redesign the Cobalt Credit Union mobile app with the small business owner in mind.

The goal of this redesign concept was to focus on creating more touch points for the brand to retain existing clients and earn new customers by getting more members to easily pay bills, transfer money and make deposits on-the-go.

The Problem

After speaking with a group of small business owners who use the Cobalt mobile app, we found that several limitations that kept the users from utilizing more of Cobalt Credit Union’s products – namely mobile bill pay, mobile deposits and transfers to other banks.

The Solution

By rethinking the Cobalt mobile app, specifically the functionality and user task flows, we can empower small business owners to do more with acces to increased Cobalt product offerings. Along the way, give them the tools they need to grow their business.

After defining the problem and identifying the solution, we develop the personas and low-fidelity wireframes.

User-Centric Design: Crafting an intuitive and user-friendly interface that simplifies complex financial operations, allowing users of all ages and backgrounds to navigate the app effortlessly.

Engaging Visual Identity: Redefining the app’s visual identity to align with the institution’s brand expression while infusing modern aesthetics to captivate users and establish a lasting emotional connection.

Personalized Financial Insights: Implementing AI-driven algorithms that analyze users’ spending patterns and financial goals to provide personalized recommendations and insights, thereby fostering better financial habits.

The conclusion

This case study gives you a deep dive into my design process, the questions I seek to solve, and the point of view I challenge myself to inhabit as I develop design solutions.  Ultimately, an innovative solution implemented in the form of a  redesigned banking app on both user experience and brand expression was reached by placing the user at the heart of our design philosophy and pushing the boundaries of what a banking app can offer.
